I special degustation menu is served as our lunch accompanied by fine wines. Relax and enjoy the onboard service on our flight over to Rio de Janeiro.
Upon arrival and after clearing formalities we are transferred to the Sofitel Rio the starting point for our Around the World tour. The sparkling lights of one of South America’s most vibrant city will shine a path directly to the hotel.
Day 2 | Rio de Janeiro sights
This morning we will be picked up 4 x 4 jeeps to take us to Corcovado Mountain and the Rio landmark par excellence: the Statue of Christ the Redeemer. From Corcovado we have a great view over the city, see the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. After our morning of touring we stop at one of the best steak houses of the city, Fogo de Chao. An ample range of salads and a choice of 15 cuts of fire roasted meats brought to your table, sliced and served by the gaucho chefs.
We continue our exploration with travel to Urca where we find another symbol of Rio de Janeiro – Sugarloaf Mountain. The journey up Sugarloaf Mountain takes place in two stages. The first cable car will take us to Urca Hill, at 215 meters high it offers expansive views over Guanabara Bay and its islands as well as the Rio-Niteroi bridge and Corcovado. Another cable car will take us to the top with magnificent views over Copacabana and the Santa Cruz Fortress.
Day 3 | Rio de Janeiro - Your Choice
Your Choice - this morning we have two included options for you to choose from. You can either elect to explore the ‘other’ side of Rio with a visit to the Favelas (slums). On this tour, we visit the Rocinha slum, one of the largest ones in South America, with approximately 150 thousand inhabitants. The tour will be made by foot, starting from the highest point going all the way down. We will get an insight into the routine of this community by walking through the streets and watching the local houses and trading taking place.
The other option is to learn more about Oscar Niemeyer, the Brazilian architect considered to be one of the key figures in the development of modern architecture. Our tour will show many of the famous projects he was involved with. This will be followed by lunch at the Museum of Contemporary Art Bistro before heading back to the hotel. There is an option to return to Rio by ‘barca’ or shuttle boat service. Remainder of the afternoon is free for personal sightseeing, shopping or perhaps just enjoying the wonderful facilities of the hotel.
Day 4 | Travel to Cusco in Peru
We cross the South American Continent and head towards Lima in Peru, and transfer to a local flight to take us to the city of Cusco in the Peruvian Andes. It was once the capital of the Inca Empire, and is now known for its archaeological remains and Spanish colonial architecture. In 1983 Cusco was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Upon arrival we transfer to our hotel for the next 3 nights, Palacio del Inka. This evening dining will be ‘Your Choice’ – choose from the hotel restaurant, room service or some carefully selected restaurants in town.
Day 5 | Exploring Cusco and surrounding areas
Cusco is a wonderful town and it is easy to while away a few hours wandering through its streets, look into the colourful shops and enjoy a coffee at one of the many cafes. There will be plenty of time for that today as we have selected a number of half day tour options as part of our ‘Your Choice’ program.
Our first option is a half day city tour which includes a visit to the Coricancha, also known as the "Temple of the Sun". You will then go to the Cathedral, the most important building on the Main Square and one of the most splendid Spanish colonial churches in the Americas. Alternatively, visit a local market and the Sacred Valley. Exploring the market stalls selling local products and traditional Andean food, then heading to the Sacred Valley to visit the Andean Textile Center Awanacancha. A third option focuses on archaeological discovery around Cusco, visiting places like Tipon, Oropesa and Pikillacta.
Day 6 | Travel by train to Machu Picchu
Tucked away in the rocky countryside northwest of Cuzco, Machu Picchu is believed to have been a royal estate or sacred religious site for Inca leaders, whose civilization was virtually wiped out by Spanish invaders in the 16th century. Historians believe Machu Picchu was built at the height of the Inca Empire, which dominated western South America in the 15th and 16th centuries. It was abandoned an estimated 100 years after its construction. For hundreds of years, until the American archaeologist Hiram Bingham stumbled upon it in 1911, the abandoned citadel’s existence was a secret known only to peasants living in the region.
The train, named after the explorer who rediscovered the Inca citadel, has two dining cars, an observation/bar car and a kitchen car. We will travel in comfort enjoying the scenery as well as lunch on the way to Machu Picchu and dinner on the return journey to Cusco. A late morning arrival enables you to explore this breath taking Inca citadel when most other visitors are starting to leave. Enjoy a guided tour of the citadel and take some time to explore on your own, there is much to do and see and the guide will bring the ancient city alive for you.
Day 7 | Journey to remote Easter Island

It’s famed for archaeological sites, including nearly 900 monumental statues called Moai, created during the 13th–16th centuries. The Moai are carved human figures with oversized heads, often resting on massive stone pedestals called ahus. The origin and reason for the statues is hotly debated.
