ITINERARY

Day 1 | Fly to Siena

Our morning flight will depart from our private jet terminal at London Biggin Hill. Relax until we are ready to board our private jet. Be welcomed aboard by our friendly crew, perhaps a glass of champagne is the best way to commence this Bitesize trip.

Our flight will take about 2 hours and morning tea will be served on-board. Upon we will be taken to Siena, following a scenic ride through the Tuscan landscape. On arrival in Siena we check in to the luxury Grand Hotel Continental, right in the historical centre of the city.

After a light lunch our guide will take us on a tour of Siena explaining the history, culture and secrets of the famous Palio including a visit to the Contrada Museum.

Contrada - A Contrada (plural is Contrade) is a district, or a ward, within an Italian city. The most well-known Contrade are the 17 of Siena that race in the Palio di Siena.

Following our afternoon exploration we will be taken to the selected Contrada (District) to attend a unique dinner called “Cena Prova Generale”. Here all people belonging to this Contrada meet each other and celebrate the Palio with a wonderful dinner organized by the residents of the Contrada and taking place open air along their streets, this is a truly unique event to attend.

Day 2 | Chianti, cooking and Palio di Siena

The Palio festivities are not till much later in the day so we take the opportunity this morning to travel into the world famous wine growing and making region of Chianti. Over the course of the morning we will explore the countryside and make our way to the Querceto Wine Estate. Here we join in to learn about some true Tuscan Cooking, together with Chef Laura we will prepare a range of authentic dishes which we will enjoy with some Estate wine. Following lunch we will return to Siena in time for the main Palio trial.

Late afternoon we depart from the hotel to commence an exploration of Siena’s ancient Palio ritual. We start with a visit to a Church of Contrada in which the blessing of the horse will take place. We walk through Siena’s narrow streets to observe the historical parade leading up to the main event. Around 5 pm we take our place on the privately reserved balcony to watch the parade before the real race commences at 7 pm. Witnessing the ancient tradition of the Palio di Siena is a truly unique experience. We conclude our evening with dinner at Osteria Le Logge.

Day 3 | Day trip to Florence

Florence, capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, is home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture. One of its most iconic sights is the Duomo, a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome engineered by Brunelleschi and a bell tower by Giotto. Our visit today includes to both the Duomo as well as the Uffizi Gallery. After a light lunch you will have free time to explore Florence before we return to Siena. Dinner this evening is at the hotel.

Day 4 | Return home

Enjoy a leisurely morning before we make our way to the airport for our lunch time flight back to our private jet terminal in London. A light lunch will be served on-board.
